HOW YOU WILL LEARN The programme features a number of additional opportunities to broaden your experience and enhance your industry insights. We run a guest lecture programme in conjunction with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, with lectures held at either our Markeaton Street site or at Loughborough University. The University also has a strong track record in the Shell Eco-Marathon competition, one of the world’s leading energy efficiency competition programmes. Our Mechanical Engineering Shell Eco Team was awarded sponsorship of £9,000 to build the prototype ethanol vehicle for the 2016 event. We also became involved in a partnership with Bombardier to build a scale locomotive for the IMechE Railway Challenge competition. You will be assessed through a combination of in-course assessments, case studies, presentations, reality-based assessments, examinations and professional presentations. OPPORTUNITIES AND EXPERIENCES Roles within the mechanical industries are extremely technologically challenging today, with ever-increasing paces of change and development. The larger industries predominantly now operate on a global scale. As a MEng graduate, you will be ideally equipped to meet the challenges presented by the constant search for improvement and the relentless pace of development that characterise these industries. We place great emphasis on the development of management skills throughout the programme, and we encourage you to secure work placements within relevant industries to strengthen your knowledge and enhance your experience. CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY This is an exciting new programme offering excellent career prospects. Graduates from our current BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering have found employment in a wide variety of industries and areas, including positions at Rolls-Royce, Toyota, Bombardier and numerous other major industrial players in the UK and internationally.

UCAS Tariff 128 points Your offer will be based on your predicted grades from your core A2s (full A levels), BTEC Diploma etc including at least a grade C at A level in Mathematics and one other Science or Technology subject at A Level (or equivalent qualification). We will accept up to 16 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project, or Music qualifications. We usually consider an A Level in General Studies as a supplementary qualification. A good application/performance will be taken into account if you do not meet the criteria / offer.
