Course summary

Skilled construction managers are in demand both in the UK and globally. At London Met we have designed a course which will produce highly skilled and valued construction managers who are able to effectively lead and contribute to the delivery of construction projects across the globe. You will achieve this through an understanding of, and ability to deploy, traditional and contemporary construction project management techniques. You will gain experience of industry standard technology to enhance your employability skills and prospects. As a student on our course, you will have the opportunity to engage in authentic learning and assessment on real world projects, working with established national and international organisations operating within the construction and real estate sector. You will have opportunities to visit live projects to experience first-hand the challenges, excitement, and opportunities a career in construction management can offer. All this whilst studying in our vibrant campuswithin a 10-minutetube journeyof the City and West End.

Modules

Example year one modules include: The Built Environment; Building Science, Materials and Structures; Construction Technology 1;Design, Procurement and Management of Construction Projects; Construction Site Engineering and Measurement. Example year two modules include: Construction Technology 2; Project Planning, Procurement and Delivery; Environmental Science, Sustainability and Fire Safety; Project Planning; Advanced Site Engineering and Surveying Practice. Example year three modules include:Strategic and Operational Project Management; Dissertation/Project; Construction Technology 3; Contemporary Project Management; Options -choose 1: Estimating and Planning Practice; Field Trip (additional cost); Mega projects; Construction Financing and Risk.

Assessment method

Assessment for the course is based primarily on coursework. In some modules tests are used to confirm knowledge and understanding of core concepts. In moduleswhere enquiry-based learning is used, industry inspired scenarios will provide the vehicles for the coursework. Coursework is a mix of reports, essays, presentations(both live and recorded), portfolios etc. For project modules, the assessment is based on an individual piece of research or work-based project conducted by the student and culminating in the submission of a substantial piece of work. Assessment for this course will be developed in line with the new University tariff guidelines and policy.
