What motivates our behaviours and choices? How do we define ethical behaviour in commerce? How do concepts of social justice influence economic policy? Our BA Economics and Philosophy degree will help you answer questions like this through the philosophical analysis of economic phenomena. You will study microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as core aspects of philosophy like reasoning, logic and ethics. You can tailor your studies to your career aspirations through optional modules that allow you to specialise in areas such as behavioural economics, social philosophy, economic policy analysis and the nature of meaning. You can also enhance your CV by studying abroad at our campuses in China or Malaysia or with a partner institution in locations like Australia, Canada or Japan. You will graduate with a distinct skillset and all the knowledge, practical skills and confidence you need to stand out to employers as you start your career.
Modules
In year one, you'll complete an introduction to economics and take core modules in macroeconomics and microeconomics and additional philosophy modules. Second-year studies will build on your experience with core modules on economic theory, as well as optional modules from economics and philosophy. In your final year, you will select modules from a variety of specialist subjects offered by the two departments - 60 credits from economics and 60 credits from philosophy, with the possibility of a dissertation in philosophy.
