Course summary
The Coatings and Ceramics research programmes are part of a progressive research area within the Department; we have close links with industry and research councils and we work collaboratively with them on many areas of research within the subject. Research activities in this area are concerned with the development, understanding and evaluation of advanced ceramics and coatings. This course has a subject classification which requires students whose nationality is outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland to have an ATAS certificate, irrespective of country of residence at the point of application.

The standard academic entry requirements for a Doctorate level programme is an Upper Second UK honours degree, or international equivalent, in a relevant science or engineering discipline or a first degree with an additional UK Masters degree (or international equivalent).
