Course summary
This course encourages an extensive understanding of the creative, critical and technical skills related to your chosen specialism within Fashion and Textile Design. A particular strength of the course is the overlapping of fashion and textile areas, creating design solutions that are reflective of the career opportunities for fashion and textiles graduates. You are encouraged to express a personal design signature whilst responding to a range of studio and workshop-based projects. The course offers three named pathways of Fashion Design, Textile Design and Fashion & Textile Design. Each pathway includes subject specialist knowledge, which assist both breadth of enquiry and subject specialist expertise. Our course enables the combination of both traditional craft skills with digital technology where students learn all the practical skills for following a successful career in fashion and/or textiles and related fields. Students are supported to develop their own pathway within the specialism and to develop the skills necessary to pursue a career within today’s dynamic fashion and textile professions, across a wide range of industry sectors. Design creativity, business and market awareness will be at the core of your projects. The course has well established links with industry enabling the students to gain valuable experience of professional practice. Many of your projects will be in partnership with industry or you will be designing for particular niche markets, providing a very ‘real’ experience of how the role of the designer impacts on and responds to the consumer. Year 1 completed via BA (Hons) Foundation in Art and Design - UCAS Code WW12
