Course summary

This Interior Design course offers students an in-depth and professional approach to specific interior design projects for both residential and commercial and is designed for those focused on developing their professional skills & portfolio to an industry ready standard. The HND in Interior Design is an internationally-recognised qualification, with a focus on the practical skills required for the commercial world and will aid you to launch your Interior Design career. You will study a range of project based modules, which will explore the relationship between interior space and volume planning, learn how to select the best materials, colours and textures, and explore presentation techniques including 2D drawing, mood boards and 3D modelling. You will develop the skills needed to use ‘Trend Forecasting’ for interiors for example lighting, furniture and colours. The course is supported through industry masterclasses delivered by guest designers from industry. You will get involved with studio-based and live projects and perfect the professional skills to become a successful interior designer in your own right. What will I study? In Year 1 you will study the following modules. Core units include: Professional Development Contextual Studies Individual Project Techniques & Processes Specialist units include: 3D Practices Computer Aided Design Optional units include: Materials & Structures Surveying & Measuring Year 2 will see you refine your skills on the following modules. Core units include: Professional Practice Applied Practice Collaborative Project Specialist units include: Advanced Interior Design Studies Optional units include: Technical Drawing 3D Modelling & Rendering Trend Forecasting On completion of the course you will have produced a professional portfolio, developed an online brand presence and understood how to effectively exhibit your work. Assessment method Progress is monitored by continuous assessment procedures. Students receive regular feedback at assessment points during the course. What can I do next? Successful completion of the course results in a BTEC HND in Interior Design Qualification. The equivalent to the second year of a BA Hons degree. On completion of the course, learners may either take up employment in industry or go on to the final year of a Level 6 programme. Possible employment roles include; Residential, Commercial or Retail Interior Designer, Interior Architect, Exhibition Designer, Theatre / Set Designer, Visual Merchandiser.
