Course summary

Operations are complex and require experts in every position. Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) play a vital role in the perioperative team, working in this specialist and dynamic environment, they provide care during the anaesthetic, surgical and recovery phases of a patient’s hospital treatment. ODPs require in-depth knowledge and skills in areas such as anatomy and physiology, illness and disease, surgical and anaesthetic procedures, legal and ethical issues, and teamwork. With practical experience gained in a variety of settings, upon successful completion of this programme you will be equipped with the skills to enable you to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a qualified ODP. You can choose to study at the Edge Hill University campus or St James’, our Manchester city centre location.

Assessment method

Assessment will be ongoing throughout the programme. Theoretical assessments can consist of exams, written assignments, oral presentations, oral examinations, and practical exams called Objective Structured Clinical Examinations. Practical assessments take place in the workplace and in clinical skills facilities.

Qualification requirements

If you have a minimum of two A Levels (or equivalent), there is no maximum number of qualifications that we will accept UCAS points from. This includes additional qualifications such as Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), AS Levels that haven’t been continued to A Level, and General Studies AS or A Level awards.
