Our foundation year will give you a grounding in law and criminology, preparing you for your future studies. As you progress into your studies, you will further develop your understanding of the legal sector, developing the skills needed to thrive after graduation. / Build a base level of knowledge and skills to prepare you for your future studies / Build a foundation of knowledge in your subject area, supporting your future studies / Practice your professional skills through a range of out-of-classroom schemes and activities Develop your skills You’ll also gain essential digitals skills through platforms like LinkedIn Learning, where you'll learn: / WestLaw for legal research / Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Generative AI / Microsoft 365 Fundamentals A degree you can trust This programme covers the foundational legal knowledge required by the Bar Standards Board. Modules

/ Foundation Year: Introduction to English Law, English Legal Systems, Academic and Personal Skills, Further Legal Knowledge, Introduction to Legal Skills and Attributes, Employability for Life. / Year 1: Contract Law, Tort Law, Legal Systems and Legal Digital Skills, Criminal Law, Criminal Justice and Human Rights, Understanding Criminology. / Year 2: Public Law, European Union Law and the UK, Land Law, Theoretical Criminology. You will also choose two elective modules. Please visit the website for more information. / Optional placement year: You will have the opportunity to undertake a year's paid professional placement between years 2 and 3. / Year 3: Equity & Trusts, Criminal Justice and Punishment. Assessment method

Assessments are not just about exams. We use different assessment techniques in different modules and wherever possible these will reflect the types of work you will do in the ‘real world’, for example, portfolio work, presentations, court visit reports and problem questions. There are very few exams and most modules are assessed by some form of coursework.
