On this course you’ll put your classroom learning into practice by working on real buildings, projects and sites on field trips – ultimately leading to a successful career in construction. You’ll graduate from a course that’s accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Chartered Institute of Building and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers. How you learn All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive. The course teaches you to use the skills and knowledge gained in the classroom and apply them to real-life projects – preparing you for employment in construction management when you graduate. You’ll work on real briefs such as site-based land surveying activities. You learn through:

Applied learning Work placements You’ll have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Placements are usually at a major construction firm or consultancy – and can contribute towards your professional experience requirement for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' Assessment of Professional Competence and the Chartered Institute of Building's Professional Review. Previous students have spent their placement working as site managers for national construction firms, assistant project managers for national firms, a HR and recruitment consultant, a health and safety manager, a design manager and as a consultant engineer. There are also opportunities to work abroad. Previous students have taken placements with companies in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa Field trips Field trips on this course include local excursions, trips to cities within the UK and a project-based visit – which is usually a major European city. Networking We have strong connections with a number of construction firms in the region. Through these you’ll be able to visit live sites and gain valuable professional opinions.
