Automation and Robotics at Anglia Ruskin University - UCAS

Course summary

Develop your knowledge and understanding of conventional and modern control systems via real-world application, automation and robotics systems, design and simulation. The course aims to generate graduates who can exercise original thinking and independent learning, acquire unique engineering skills, and develop aptitudes as technical team leaders and directors. The students of this course are expected to develop a deeper understanding of technical, business, and managerial skills. This MSc Automation and Robotics course will prepare you for the fourth industrial revolution and employers' demand for the workforce. It enables you to gain the in-depth expertise required to vigorously organise and participate in intelligent automation and robotics systems' design and development. You will specialise in the hardware and software that promotes, manages, and scrutinises intelligent techniques through acquiring advanced engineering skills in demand from the industry. You will develop critical transferable skills, including problem-solving, innovative thinking, data analysis, project management and teamwork. The course equips graduates with the knowledge and skill required to design, exploit and deploy automation and robotic systems in various disciplines and industrial applications. In this Automation & Robotics MSc course, you will understand autonomous and intelligent systems, robotics design and manufacturing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). It also enables you to gain in-depth expertise in the field. The course empowers students to develop skills by frequently working and taking various roles in teams, presenting and defending their projects, developing a deeper understanding of engineering problems and software, and using advanced collaborative and communication tools for effective personal development. Students will work on real-world automation and robotics engineering projects involving design, functional, coding, analysis, optimisation, and manufacturing systems of the 21st century. The course design considers recent trends towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution, emphasising digital tools for smart engineering and manufacturing.

Assessment method

This programme involves different laboratory activities, hands-on exercises, practical learning and the use of machines and devices in innovative learning environments. The course allows you to gain theoretical and practical manufacturing automation & robotics competencies. You can build a system from scratch and practice your skills using ARU's professional Robotics lab. Your knowledge and understanding will be assessed through various methods, including oral presentations (a poster or PowerPoint slides), examinations, technical written reports and essays, team projects and coursework. Students must also actively participate in feasibility studies, designing, simulation, laboratory activities and programming. Some assessments will be carried out individually, and others will be group work. There will also be a final project module in the final Semester. It is designed to develop students' design skills and independent study and will be assessed through poster presentation and the production of a project report. There will be an exit plan where students need to show what they have learned and learn how to develop their CVs. Formative and summative assessment strategies and feedback will be the essential components we adopt to communicate orally with the students during the workshops and practical sessions.
