Architectural Technology is where architectural design meets construction technology. Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), this course provides modern and successful design solutions based on a combination of aesthetics and advanced technologies. This course is your gateway to a career in the architecture engineering construction industry. Learn how to create new designs – as well as working with existing ones – that have buildability, technology, procurement and contractual relations in mind. All of this is set within the social, regulatory, technical, sustainable and aesthetic context of both the UK and global development industry. You will use the latest industry-standard digital tools and technologies such as Building Information Modelling and Management which includes the best practice in Design and Collaboration within a Common Data Environment. As part of the training offered, you will also be using Revit Worksharing and Immersive Digital Design Review using VR, CAD, 3D printing and laser scanning. This set of technology packages will enhance your employability and career progression with skills that give you a competitive advantage. We have excellent relationships with employers, meaning there is a range of opportunities for work placements. We have industry partnerships with engineering, management and development consultants, currently including Mott MacDonald and Birmingham City Council’s Urban Design team. Foundation Year The foundation year is designed to give you the opportunity to develop your academic and interpersonal skills while developing your subject knowledge further to support you to success on your academic path. By studying a foundation year, your first year will be spent learning a wide range of broad subject areas which then open up opportunities for you to specialise further in your next year – which would be the first year of a full degree programme.
