Course summary

This programme is designed to meet the needs of the contemporary media industry by primarily focusing on new production techniques, online distribution and audiences, in a location that can support and offer many opportunities for producers. Industry experts are engaged in the programme delivery to ensure you are fully focused on the requirements of future employers and current professional practice. This programme will enable you to produce work in your chosen Digital Media Production specialism, with an awareness of technical, creative, legal and ethical considerations. You will develop a range of skills that will stay with you beyond graduation. These skills will ensure you are ready to enter a contemporary workforce, preparing you to be flexible in their application to a broad range of industries and organisations as a creative service. Several modules provide opportunities to connect with industry, including Canolfan S4C Yr Egin and its tenants, as well as UK partners such as OM-Digital, Panasonic Lumix and Ironman. This programme shares much of the industry-facing and collaborative ethos of Adventure Filmmaking, Acting, Theatre, Design and Production programmes within the cluster. Staff, resources and facilities will be shared across the programmes.

Year Two - Level 5 (HND & BA) • Aerial Filmmaking (20 credits; compulsory) • Changemakers: Building Your Personal Brand for Sustainable Employment (20 credits; compulsory; Graduate Attributes Framework module) • Changemakers: Creativity and Value Creation (20 credits; compulsory; Graduate Attributes Framework module) • Digital Creative Industries (20 credits; compulsory) • Factual Media Production (20 credits; compulsory) • International Study Abroad* (20 credits; optional) • International Independent Study Abroad (L5)* (60 credits; optional) • Short Film Production (20 credits; compulsory). Year Three - Level 6 (BA) • Client Project (20 credits; compulsory) • Creative Industries Review (20 credits; compulsory) • Independent Project (40 credits; compulsory; Graduate Attributes Framework module) • International Independent Study Abroad* (60 credits; optional) • Multiplatform Content (20 credits; compulsory) • Professional Practice (20 credits; compulsory).

  • This is an option to study abroad and will only be available at level 5 or level 6, not both, by application and approval. These modules will replace the compulsory 60 credits of the semester and level.

Assessment method

Our assessments are all based on course work. There are no exams. Most work will be based on producing work to a set brief. There are also project pitches, self reflection reports, and industry reviews. The work you produce will be by informed by industry standards and allow you to measure yourself against your own ambitions. Work will also students to amass a portfolio of production work, experience, contacts, and references.
