Course summary
The Certificate in Higher Education in Health and Social Care is a 1-year programme when studied on a full-time basis, which requires 6 hours of engagement in the classroom, one day per week. Students will also be required to complete at minimum of 125, paid or voluntary work-place hours over the duration of the programme within the arena of Health and Social Care. Vocational hours provide real world relevance to student learning and are imperative to success on this programme. The programme aims to:
- Develop students who can assess, plan and implement care delivery and make sound judgements about the effectiveness of the delivery
- Develop student’s personal and transferable skills including assessing and planning, problem solving and decision making, health promotion, interdisciplinary working, interpersonal skills and reflective practice
- Develop students’ principles of integrity and compassion to support best practice, effective communication and professionalism
- Enable students to understand the core principles of continuous professional development, whilst collecting and collating evidence to support this.

Assessment method
The primary way of delivering this course is on campus. Students will receive 6 hours of teaching per week throughout this course. On campus teaching includes a combination of lectures, small group seminars, workshops, guest lectures and one to one discussion with your tutor. Additional one-to-one meetings with tutors will provide further support. Throughout the degree, students will be assessed in several ways, including (but not limited to) written assignments, presentations, exams and practical assessments.
