Course summary
The programme enables students to pursue the academic study of news and journalism and acquire advanced reporting and writing skills. It examines the forms, practices, institutions and audiences of newspaper, radio, television and online news reporting in relation to broader social issues (both in the UK and internationally). Students conduct academic research and acquire practical reporting skills, and in the process gain advanced analytic and communication skills related to a range of careers in factual media, communications and cultural industries, and research. The programme has strong links with the MediaWise Trust and other media organisations based in Britain and abroad, including South East Asia.

Journalism writing media law and ethics 1; multi-media journalism 1; investigative journalism; media law and ethics 2; multi-media journalism 2; production portfolio.
Assessment method
You will be assessed through a combination of practical work, research portfolios, exams, essays and presentations.
Entry requirements
Honours degree or equivalent, or relevant professional experience.
English language requirements
International and EU applicants are required to have a minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0 overall including at least 7.0 in the writing component and no lower than 6.5 in any other component (or approved equivalent*). *The University accepts a large number of UK and international qualifications in place of IELTS.
