Course summary
This Foundation Degree with Optional Integrated Foundation Entry is designed for those who want to study for the foundation degree but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to start just yet. The foundation entry modules include: Art & Design Studies, Design Investigation, Specialism Skills and Drawing and Image Communication, giving you the opportunity to explore a range of design practices before progressing to Year One of the Foundation Degree in your chosen specialism. The Foundation Degree in Digital Imaging and Photography has been designed to provide specialist skills using photographic and digital imaging (including moving image) processes and technology relevant to contemporary creative and commercial practice. The aims of the programme are to: • Equip students with the skills, knowledge and understanding for versatility and confidence, relevant to the needs of clients and employment in the photography / digital imaging sector. • Provide students with an effective balance between education and training by promoting self-development and creative expression, intellectual enquiry and the visual communication of ideas underpinned by the acquisition of transferable, technical and practical skills and knowledge. • Give students a progression route to advance, where appropriate, towards other qualifications, for example the one year BA (Hons) Top up in Digital Imaging and Photography, or future employment within photography and digital imaging industry. You will develop your photographic skills, together with knowledge and understanding, through practical projects based on professional practice. Students will have full access to well-equipped studio spaces and both digital and traditional photographic facilities, including Adobe software, large format digital printing and traditional darkroom. Techniques of traditional and digital photography will be explored, within practical work related projects and with opportunities to create industry links.

Assessment occurs through the effectiveness of practical and written work and is evaluated through reference to personal development plans, peer responses and tutor comments and through: • Essays • Workbooks/Journals • Research and development work • Practical work • Written work/Presentations • Exhibitions • Module files • Written assignments • Live Projects

Qualification requirements
For students entering via the optional Foundation Entry route, the following admission criteria will apply: - Portfolio and successful individual interview. In lieu of a portfolio, applicants may complete a project as an alternative demonstration of ability. UK and EU Entry: Equivalent international qualifications will be considered towards meeting the general entry requirements. For students entering directly onto the Foundation Degree, the following admission criteria will apply: - Entry onto this course is through a successful interview with portfolio of work. Additionally we will normally expect applicants to have one of the following qualifications and minimum of 64 UCAS points: • Pre-Degree Foundation in Art and Design or • A Levels (Grade A-C) in a relevant subject or • BTEC Level 3 qualification, grade Merit or above Aged 18 or over – applications are welcome from mature students with appropriate experience Students are also accepted who have appropriate non-standard entry qualifications and/or relevant experience. Please contact the Course Leader for more information. Mature students who do not fall into one of the above categories will be invited to attend an informal interview at which their previous learning, industrial experience, needs and aspirations can be thoroughly explored. If it is felt that they are in a position to benefit from the course, they will be offered a place. If it is decided that they are not yet ready to enter the first year, they will be counselled as to the most suitable means of preparing for future entry. Direct entry to the second year is possible for suitably qualified applicants. Applicants will be asked to attend an interview with a member of the Admissions Team, normally the Course Leader where an assessment will be made as to whether all or some of the modules can be exempted. UK and EU Entry: Equivalent international qualifications will be considered towards meeting the general entry requirements.

Interview
Additional Selection Criteria: Meeting the minimum entry requirement for a course does not necessarily guarantee a place. Entry to all courses is subject to a successful interview. When assessing an application, we take into account your grades, predicted grades, reference and personal statement. From your personal statement and interview, we consider your motivation and commitment to success, and any relevant experience you may have. For some courses, we may also ask for a portfolio of appropriate work or an audition, or you may be required to find a work placement prior to enrolment. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check: To gain access to some courses you may need to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you have criminal convictions or cautions, please do not be put off from applying for the course. Your acceptance on to the course will depend on the nature of any convictions and will be at the discretion of the University Centre and your placement provider. Interview: All applicants are invited to attend an interview with either the Course Leader or Course Tutor. You will be notified of your interview by our Admissions Team who will also update UCAS Track with details of your application.
Portfolio
English language requirements
EU students, for whom English is not the first language, will be required to evidence an IELTS score or 6.0 or equivalent. Equivalences include: • TOEFL written examination score of 550 plus a test of written English (at 4) • TOEFL Computer Equivalent score of 230 • Proficiency in English (Cambridge) at Grade C or above
