Course summary

Cyber physical systems is an area of computer science that is growing. Our course combines computer science knowledge with specialist skills in cyber physical systems. The key topics covered will include:

  • machine learning
  • neural networks
  • cyber security
  • human artificial intelligence interaction
You'll take part in a group project in year two which prepares you for designing and creating the computer systems of the future. Many projects are in collaboration with industry. Previous students have worked with Capital One, Experian, IBM and UniDays. All these companies have offices in Nottingham. This project is great for your CV and can help you make contacts ready for when you start your career. What are cyber physical systems? Cyber physical systems integrate computation with physical objects and processes. Examples of cyber physical systems are:
  • 'smart' devices in the home such as a smart meter or fridge
  • voice assistant devices
  • driverless vehicles
  • medical monitoring equipment
  • wearable devices
  • robotic assistants
All industries can benefit from cyber physical systems. It can help us grow better crops, improve traffic, simplify management of health conditions and save energy.
