Course summary

International Business Law is vocationally and ethically focussed, giving you a solid foundation in areas of law practiced in international and City law firms. Why study International Business Law? This innovative Master’s degree covers cutting-edge contemporary legal trade issues in the post-Brexit world. It will provide you with a detailed understanding of the complexities of international trade and business law. Why St Mary's? The University is ideally located close to central London - the world’s leading financial centre - allowing you access to public events and seminars in the City of London. As part of your course, you will have the opportunity to visit key legal and City institutions. We also offer an LLM in International and European Business Law, which offers you the opportunity to spend your second semester in France, studying at ICP, Paris. If you have not studied English law before, don’t worry, the course has been designed to ensure you will receive the support and guidance to study these successfully. The programme is part of a successful suite of law programmes at St Mary's. You will be invited to participate in a range of employability events including a mock trial, mooting and commercial awareness seminars. The programme also has strong links with the MSc International Business Management and there will be opportunities for business and law students to engage in a diverse programme of extra-curricular events.

Modules

Core Modules: Approaches to Legal Research; Dissertation (or equivalent project); International Economic and Business Law; International Trade Law; Law and Justice in a Globalised World. Optional Modules: Finance Law and Ethical Challenges; Global Competition Law; International and Comparative Intellectual Property Law; International and European Labour Law; International Arbitration; Law and Economics.

Assessment method

All assessments are designed to develop your employability skills. The programme will develop your in-depth legal knowledge and key skills of emotional intelligence, teamwork, inter-cultural practice and leadership. These will be evaluated through carefully crafted authentic assessments with significant opportunity for self-reflection. Assessments take the form of individual and group work including reports, case studies, presentations, group projects and viva voce.


Entry requirements

2:2 or higher (or overseas equivalent) in Law or a degree with a least 70% Law content. Candidates will be considered where a comparable academic level has been achieved through other graduate level studies (such as the Graduate Diploma in Law) and where legal or other work experience has made the applicant a suitable candidate for the LLM. If English is not your first language you will need to achieve an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in any section (or equivalent).
