Course summary
BSc(Hons) Diagnostic Radiography is accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), so you can apply to register with them when you graduate. You’ll learn in industry-standard facilities where you’ll observe and practise diagnostic procedures. Get to grips with operating highly specialised equipment such as the Shaderware virtual reality x-ray laboratory. Study the science that underpins effective diagnosis. Develop strong inter-professional and interpersonal skills. The course has a strong practical focus, incorporating evidence-based learning, simulations and placements throughout. You’ll engage with patients, clinical radiographers and other healthcare professionals on placements, in class and online. UWE Bristol students have won prizes for presenting at the Society of Radiographers’ conferences, and others have published work in professional journals. You’ll spend about half the course on clinical work placements in the NHS and private healthcare organisations. There’s also the chance to develop and apply your skills working abroad. Diagnostic radiographers are in demand, with exciting career opportunities for graduates in the NHS and private radiography departments in the UK and worldwide. You can also develop a specialism by studying a master’s in a field such as ultrasound, nuclear medicine or radiotherapy.

Subjects that meet the Science requirement for this course: Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology. Applicants with other Science subjects (namely PE or Geography) that have a strong academic profile will be considered on an individual basis. Criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland)
The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 does not apply and all convictions, including those which are spent, must be disclosed. If you are offered a place, you must undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and will be required to complete a Disclosure Application Form. All information will be treated in confidence and only taken into account when absolutely necessary.

As part of the assessment you will be required to complete a questionnaire and must be prepared to undergo a medical examination if required. You must be in good health and up-to-date with all routine immunisations that are required for working in health and social care settings. You will also be required to confirm your status in respect of a number of infectious diseases (tuberculosis, measles, mumps, rubella, chicken pox, varicella, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV antibodies) and be prepared to have all required vaccinations. Please note that the list of required vaccinations may change, in response to advice from the Department of Health. If your vaccinations are not up-to-date, this will affect your ability to continue on your course. If you have any concerns with regards to vaccinations please raise this at the point of application.
