Course summary

Join us to analyse how politics shapes our lives. We conduct internationally renowned research on some of the most important issues facing Britain, Europe and the world. You’ll work with expert faculty at the cutting-edge of politics, covering Britain, Europe and international issues. We have particular interests in:

  • foreign policy
  • energy issues
  • citizenship and migration issues
  • gender politics
  • corruption

Modules

Recent thesis titles include: The effect of internal control management on corruption: The case of Saudi Arabia; corruption in central and Eastern Europe: The influence of the European Union on the control of corruption in the Czech Republic, Macedonia and Romania; narratives of corruption and anti-corruption in Mexico; the politics of anti-corruption in Nigeria; anti-corruption policy in Hungary: Enforcing compliance with EU anti-corruption policy after accession; anti-corruption reform, political will and collective action in sub-Saharan Africa; obeying the iron law? Changes to the intraparty balance of power in the British Liberal Democrats; organisational change in Western European communist parties since 1989; the development of post-war Conservative party immigration policy in government and in opposition; the predominance of Prime Ministers: A comparative study of Britain and Australia; young citizens’ political participation.


Entry requirements

You’re normally expected to have a Masters degree and an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree. Your qualification should be in political science, international relations, economics, history or sociology. You may also be considered for the degree if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
