Would you like to explore the development of AI and its impact on the way we live and work? On this course, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding and critical awareness of the main concepts and principles in AI and their application across a wide range of industries. This course will provide you with knowledge of the underlying principles of AI, machine learning, optimisation techniques and deep learning as well as practical experience of the tools and methods used for applied AI. Academic experts with industry experience will introduce you to a broad range of subjects including Mobile Application Development, Software Development, Database Systems, AI and Machine Learning, DevOps and MLOps, and AI and Security. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of computing and AI and the ways in which computers work and algorithms are developed. You’ll explore some of the current engineering, industrial and commercial applications of AI and use contemporary research to help you identify gaps in the market and develop innovative solutions. This degree makes extensive use of large cohorts of data (big data) and the application of AI, data science and computational and mathematical modelling. You’ll learn how to analyse data and provide data-driven insight and information for enhanced decision-making. You’ll apply your knowledge through hands-on projects and assignments that emphasise the practical, real-world applications of AI. You’ll also complete professional work placements allowing you to gain invaluable, relevant experience. You’ll graduate with the hard and soft skills needed for a career in computer science or AI, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving and digital literacy, alongside the necessary technical, practical programming skills. Professional work placements Our established links with companies in the Leeds city region means a wide range of business sectors where you can undertake your placement. Previous placement providers include Sky, Infinity Works, Aire Logic and TwentySix Digital. Graduate opportunities This degree aims to prepare you for specialist computer science roles, including algorithm developer, research scientist, big data engineer, machine learning engineer, business intelligence developer/consultant, software engineer, NLP engineer and robotics engineer.
