Course summary
Develop your skills and understanding of the core concepts of Clinical Education and become an exceptional education practitioner. Rooted in workplace learning, our course is designed to encourage you to make critical and creative connections between your own – and your students’ – practice and theoretical perspectives on teaching, learning and assessment. Whether you're from clinical settings or Higher Education institutions, this course will develop your understanding of the education and assessment of the next generation of clinical practitioners. With us, you will:
- debate and discuss the central themes and issues in clinical education
- explore the differences between clinical and educational research
- undertake introductory research training in educational research
- design and conduct small-scale empirical research on a topic relevant to the clinical education workplace.
Modules
Our course has been designed with the needs of healthcare practitioners in mind. This means we’ll help you to critically analyse your own practice as a clinical educator. Throughout your studies, you’ll evaluate a range of educational theories and strategies in reference to teaching, learning and assessment in the clinical context and apply these ideas to the development of your own teaching practice. There is direct observation of your teaching in practice and regular opportunities for peer reviewing of your teaching practice (micro-teaching). There is a high level of support for academic skills development, both to help you to fulfil your potential on this course and promote your further development and progression. We hope you'll have an inspirational experience of research-led teaching, which you'll seek to emulate in your own clinical education context.
Assessment method
Learning and Teaching in the Clinical Context is assessed by an essay (3000 words) and a reflective case study (3000 words). Assessment & Evaluation is assessed by an essay (3000 words and the planning and evaluation of a teaching session (3000 words). You will be required to complete each module and associated coursework successfully before proceeding to the next module.
Entry requirements
A bachelor (hons) degree in a health-related subject. A minimum of years’ experience (or part-time equivalent) in practice and entry on the appropriate professional register. Involvement in education and training in current role. Non-standard entry application routes are considered on a case-by-case basis. International students Due to the nature of blended teaching on this programme, this programme is not available to study by applicants who are outside the UK. English language requirements IELTS 7.0 overall, with no less than 6.5 in any component. . For other English qualifications, read English language equivalent qualifications. International students who do not meet the English language requirements for the programme may be able to study an English for Academic Purposes pre-sessional course with a progression route to the degree programme.
