Course summary
The film industry is a vibrant and creative sector driven by the demand for prime-time cinematic drama on free to air and streaming platforms and in the cinema. It requires talented and creative people with specialist technical skills and our highly practical course is designed to give you this. Throughout the course, you'll be able to develop your technical and creative skills to a professional level and use your flair to complete a compelling production in your final year. This important project is a great opportunity for you to showcase your talents and develop your experience to help you with seeking employment. As part of your degree, you will gain the ‘Applied Skills for a Sustainable Media Industry’ certificate from industry body, albert, demonstrating that you have developed an understanding of environmentally friendly film production. Regular visits from professional practitioners will enrich your studies and offer valuable insights from industry practices. Recent visiting practitioners include guests from the British Film Institute (BFI), Left Bank Pictures and the Kent Film Office, BBC and ITV. Internationally renowned post-production houses, such as Molinare, will also speak to you. This form of networking has helped many of our film graduates to find future opportunities. Specialist facilities Along with excellent resources on campus, you’ll have access to the Powell building which houses a range of facilities and industry equipment so you can produce work of the highest quality, these include:
- Digital film cameras, including the Arri Alexa Mini LF and Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro.
- Location lighting and grip equipment.
- Post-production facilities include AVID Media Composer, and the full Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.
- A professional TV gallery and Studio.
- Portable recording equipment, including Martantz, Zooms and Rodes for podcasts, documentaries and features etc.
