ABOUT THIS COURSE The Level 4 HNC - Career Musician course is your ticket to the industry. This immersive program is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to make your mark. KEY UNITS This course covers everything you need to establish yourself as a professional musician - prepared for industry. From understanding your place in the local and global market to marketing and promotion strategies that will help you grow your fanbase. Professional development modules ensure you're ready for the demands of the industry, while instrumental technique and music performance classes let you hone your craft and perform to live audiences in local venues. You'll delve into applied music theory and songwriting to understand the science behind the magic and create your best work. Plus, you'll learn the fundamentals of sound engineering, ensuring your live performances always sound exactly as they should. Key Units 1 - “Music Industry” - Understand how you fit into the local and global market 2 - “Marketing and Promotion” - Learn how to grow your Fanbase and reach your target audience 3 - “Professional Development” - Guided self-improvement to prepare you for industry 4 - “Instrumental Technique” - Develop your playing 5 - “Music Performance” - Perform to live audiences 6 - “Applied Music Theory” - Understand the science behind the magic 7 - “Songwriting” - Take your composition to the next level 8 - “Sound Engineering Fundamentals” - Make live music sound great ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 64 points from A Levels, BTEC or other Level 3 in courses related to music performance/production (or equivalents with supporting performance or theory grades, grade 6 and above) English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above, or an equivalent qualification (e.g. Functional Skills at Level 2). Students need not have a theory qualification to enter the programme. In addition to the above, all students are auditioned before acceptance to ensure basic competence in performance / production ability. ASSESSMENT Throughout the programme, assessment is through live briefs and real-work situations, wherever possible. Students will generally produce evidence of practical application of theory, such as portfolio of composition or portfolio work, along with accompanying written work to assess knowledge and understanding. Written work may include context, research, justification, reflection and/or evaluation. Each module learning outcome will be assessed once, although there will be scope for students to try ideas and obtain self, peer and/or tutor formative feedback. WHERE DOES THIS LEAD Following completion of this qualification, learners could choose to progress to the HND Music Portfolio Careers & Music Enterprise & Entrepreneurship.
