Course summary

Birkbeck's BSc International Business brings you up to date with the rapidly changing environments in which multinational enterprises operate and in which local businesses achieve international reach.  Designed to meet the buoyant demand for more international business graduates, this degree provides you with a solid foundation for a career in a multinational company or in a company engaged in international business. You will deepen your knowledge of a broad range of management issues in key areas, including:

  • international strategic management
  • marketing
  • finance and operations management
  • human resource management
  • accounting
  • managerial economics.
This international business degree attracts students from both the public and private sectors, including administrators and managers, as well as entrepreneurs and the self-employed. Because it is taught entirely in the evening, you can combine your academic studies with other daytime commitments, including work, volunteering and interning, and other personal commitments. Evening study lets you use your days to gain invaluable practical experience in the workplace, so you can get a head start in a competitive job market, secure a promotion, or launch or expand your own business or social enterprise.  Our students come from diverse backgrounds and career stages, so you will be learning alongside people with a wide range of experiences. This creates a stimulating, supportive learning environment and gives you unparalleled opportunities for networking and making contacts with other professionals. Our tutorial/seminar sessions also let you interact closely with your peers and develop insights into analysing and interpreting wide and varied topics in international business. If you opt for the Foundation Year route, this will fully prepare you for undergraduate study. It is ideal if you are returning to study after a gap, or if you have not previously studied the relevant subjects, or if you didn't achieve the grades you need for a place on your chosen undergraduate degree. Careers and employability This degree will prepare you for a career in the corporate world, or to set up your own business, but the range of transferable skills you will gain are also greatly valued by a wide range of employers in diverse sectors. Graduates can pursue careers in business or management in a domestic or international context or in any functional area (accounting, finance, marketing or human resources management) in the public or private sector. Mid-term tests and end-of-term examinations, individual or group presentations, written essays and a research project/dissertation.

International applicants

If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests. We also accept other English language tests.
