Course summary

The HND develops the key concepts and ideas that underpin the Health and Social Care sector. It also expands your knowledge of the contemporary issues that inform delivery of services in various settings e.g. in the community. You will also progress your skills as a reflective practitioner; a necessary skill for the world of work as well as in higher education. You will study a range of units which relate to health and social care including six mandatory core units; Communicating in Health and Social Care, Organisations Principles of Health and Social Care Practice, Health and Safety in the Health and Social Care Workplace, Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care, Working in Partnership in Health and Social Care there will then be optional units which include: Social Policy, The Sociological Context of Health and Social Care, Empowering Users of Health and Social Care Services, Safeguarding in Health and Social Care, The Role of Public Health in Health and Social Care and will be chosen in line with the student cohort. We offer the following full-time option to complete the HND: Two years at Hastings (Integrated Health and Social Care and Healthcare Management option).

Modules

HND consists of seven mandatory, optional and specialist units such as; • Reflective Approaches in Implementing Person-centred Practice; • Supporting Individuals through Significant Life Events; • Care Planning Processes in Healthcare Practice; • Innovation and Improvement through Action Research (Pearson-set Project) • Supporting Team and Partnership Working Across Health and Social Care Services • End of Life Care Planning and Support • Health Psychology

Assessment method

A variety of assessment methods are used including written reports and presentations.
