The Foundation Degree Leadership and Management is designed to ensure that you cover a broad range of modules, which will equip you for employment within leadership and management roles. The programme offers modules which combine a range of theoretical and practical elements designed to provide you with the skills needed in the workplace, as well as the academic rigour appropriate to a Higher Education programme. You will be introduced to a range of concepts that underpin leadership and management, which are essential to operating at a supervisory and/or management level. You will be provided with the underpinning knowledge and expertise to progress either into the employment market or to continue your studies onto an appropriate final year top-up degree. Part-time students will be expected to be in employment whilst on programme, and full-time students will be expected to complete vocational experience within the occupational sector throughout the programme. This will provide valuable experience, networking opportunities and a chance to apply academic study in a working environment. This is a course that encourages you to use your subject specialist skills and incorporate these skills and knowledge into your assessments. If you are a member of the Hospitality, Beauty, Hair, Sport or any other industry and you are interested in learning new skills and knowledge to allow you to progress within your industry in terms of leadership and management, then this course allows you to achieve that. You can use your relevant skills and knowledge to contextualise your assessments to your industry area.
You will study 120 credits per year of the course and the modules may include: Year 1 - Level 4 Introduction to Leadership & Management Professional Development Managing Resources Understanding Organisations & Environment Finance & Marketing for Managers Managing Customer Relations Year 2 - Level 5 Project Management Leading People & Performance Personal Learning & Development Work Related Learning Strategy, Innovation & Enterprise Managing Continuous Improvement & Change
Continuous assessment ensures that your progress is monitored throughout the modules with personal tutor support. A variety of assessment methods are used, including presentations, role-plays, professional discussions, portfolios and reports. A detailed assessment grid can be found in the course handbook.
