Develop your management skills and become a motivational leader who has in-depth knowledge of marketing, finance and project management. In 2021 there were 148,222 jobs within the Leeds City Region alone. Employment opportunities are set to increase with an anticipated 3.1% growth between 2021 and 2024. With the average wage sitting at £39,700 per year/£19.57 per hour and job opportunities set to increase, enrol on the Leadership and Management Foundation Degree and be a part of this growth. Whilst studying your degree, you will develop a deep understanding of essential leadership and management skills required to succeed within an organisation. You will learn all aspects of project management, explore the importance of personal learning and development and get the chance to put your skills into practice with work based learning. Modules

Modules may include: Year 1 (Level 4) Principles & Concepts of Leadership & Management (20 credits) Develop a key understanding of leadership and management, whilst exploring human resources, motivation in the workplace, and traditional and modern management systems. Academic Toolkit (20 credits) Acquire and develop transferable, academic, employability and subject specific skills to succeed in a leadership and management role. Business Environments & Marketing (20 credits) Gain knowledge and understanding on the core elements of business and marketing in relation to the external business environment. Managing Customer Relations (20 credits) Develop your customer relational skills and further your understanding of customers, their expectations and complaints. Funding & Financial Management (20 credits) This module gives you the tools to understand the operation and decision making within an organisation from a financial standpoint. You will learn how to effectively budget, plan and manage all aspects of finance. Resource Planning & Forecasting (20 credits) In this module you will develop skills in planning and forecasting through utilising the resources available to you. Year 2 (Level 5) Project Management (20 credits) You will be introduced to project management whereby you learn how to manage finances, technology, people and intellectual property in order to achieve the desired outcome. Leading People and Performance (20 credits) This module covers the skills needed to lead and manage both teams and individuals, whilst giving you the opportunity to improve your skill set. Learning and Development in Organisations (20 credits) Further your knowledge and understanding of the importance of personal learning within organisations. Research Project (20 credits) Identify and analyse issues within the workplace whilst developing solutions. This module gives you the opportunity to reflect on your overall learning experience. Strategy, Innovation and Enterprise (20 credits) Develop your knowledge and skills around strategic analysis, strategic choice and implementing strategy. Managing Continuous Improvement and Change (20 credits) Within the module you will gain an in-depth understanding of quality management.

Assessment method

Our assessments are designed around the leadership and management role, reflecting the skills that are needed for the workplace. This means they not only prepare you for the industry, but offer a glimpse into your future work-based activities. Assessments throughout the foundation degree will reflect work related transferable skills such as writing reports, delivering presentations and role play scenarios. Both formative and summative assessment methods will be adopted within the programme to enable you to effectively relate theory to practice. Regular assessment and feedback is embedded throughout the modules to help you develop the wide range of skills needed to succeed on the course and in a leadership and management role. Such activities include, group discussions, direct and indirect questioning, simulated practice, peer assessment, reflective practice, analytical tool practice, research tasks, and role plays, for instance. Formative assessment is also on-going through a structured tutorial system. Formal assessments have been designed to reflect employability skills and occupationally related tasks. The assessment activities are based upon occupationally related skills so that we are effectively preparing you for the workplace. Assessments are dependent on each module and may consist of:

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

GCSE English (Desirable): English Language grade 4 or above is desirable. Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Literacy are accepted in place of GCSEs. GCSE Maths (Desirable): Maths grade 4 or above is desirable. Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Numeracy are accepted in place of GCSEs. Part Time courses: Students for part time study are required to hold a full level 3 qualification or the equivalent experience in a relevant subject and will need to be working in the sector. IELTS: IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any component. International qualifications: International qualifications will be assessed against these criteria. Mature applicants: University Centre Leeds welcomes applications from mature* applicants who may not have met the academic criteria, but who can demonstrate a wealth of experience in their chosen field. Candidates in this category and otherwise are likely to be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and may be asked to provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application. *21 years and over at the start of the course RPL claims: The course structure actively supports claims for Recognition of Prior Certified Learning (RPL).
