Course summary
Learn about and work in a variety of media, using industry standard equipment and facilities. You’ll soon be ready for a career in the creative industries spanning film, TV, audio, radio and animation. You’ll course explore the links between practice and theory in a way that will enhance your creative, analytical and communication skills. Our Film, Radio and Television (FRTV) degree pays special attention to employability, and you will be encouraged to work both individually and as part of a team. FRTV will help you to develop the transferable skills that are vital in the constantly evolving creative industries while simultaneously giving you the opportunity to explore and develop your own relationship with the media. As part of your course, you will gain the "Applied Skills for a Sustainable Media Industry" certificate from industry body, albert, demonstrating that you have developed an understanding of environmentally friendly film, radio and television production. Albert is embedded into the course in Year 3 through the Professional Perspectives in the Creative Industries employability module. Your tutors are a mix of creative practitioners and theoreticians, and you will have access to professional standard television and radio studios, computing and editing suites and specialist film production equipment. Graduate Outcomes Survey 2022 Specialist facilities Along with excellent resources on campus, you’ll have access to the Powell building which houses a range of facilities and industry equipment so you can produce work of the highest quality, these include: a variety of different digital film cameras including the Arri Alexa Mini LF and Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro. a wide range of location lighting and grip equipment. post-production facilities include AVID Media Composer, and the full Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. a professional TV gallery and Studio. four dedicated radio studios with Abobe Audition and Myriad. a wide range of portable recording equipment including Martantz, Zooms and Rodes for podcasts, documentaries and features etc. you can also get involved in CSR, Canterbury Student Radio. Location This course is run at our Canterbury Campus in Kent. Canterbury is just 50 miles south-east of London and less than an hour by high-speed train from St Pancras. Located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site the campus offers state-of-the-art buildings, right in the centre of a vibrant and world-famous cathedral city. You’ll benefit from a campus with excellent learning and teaching resources, music venues, a superb sports centre, a well-stocked bookshop and plenty of coffee bars and places to eat. A short walk away is Augustine House our award-winning library and home to a vast range of learning resources and student support teams.
