Course summary

This postgraduate course supports and challenges your ideas, creativity and ambitions. Whatever your previous experience, the course gets you to explore in depth your way of seeing the world and to think through how to use the language of photography to build a portfolio that has excitement and depth. We welcome photographers from a wide range of backgrounds, as well as those who have studied photography at undergraduate level. We are looking for passion and a commitment to exploring and questioning the medium of photography. We want you to produce high-quality work that will aid both your personal development and your career ambitions within the creative industries. Our modules guide students towards recognising potential themes and exploring them using an extended range of approaches and techniques. In addition, an extensive range of workshops will cover such disciplines as high-level digital studio work, moving image and video editing, book production, black and white darkroom work and alternative process techniques. The process of developing and realising a major portfolio of work is key during your time on the course. A final extended major project gives scope to fully develop your own ideas, informed by previous experimentation and investigation in the earlier modules. Underpinning your practice will be the application of research skills and scholarship – previous students, whatever their background or confidence with academic aspects of postgraduate study, have found this a rich and rewarding part of the course that has greatly expanded their thinking and approach to image making.
