Course summary

The MPhil in Strategy, Marketing & Operations (SMO) is one of three research MPhils offered by Cambridge Judge Business School to prepare students for an academic career in a business school. It is an intensive nine-month programme and comprises four specialisations; each specialisation provides foundational coursework for the PhD pathway of the same name. Modules

The MPhil in Strategy, Marketing & Operations programme has the following specialisations: Strategic Management (part of the Strategic Management PhD pathway) Marketing (part of the Marketing PhD pathway) Operations & Technology Management (part of the Operations & Technology Management PhD pathway) Alternatively, as a discretionary option, you may take a suite of coursework specialising in Organisational Behaviour. This option is part of the Organisational Behaviour PhD pathway. You are required to complete nine modules, covering research methodology, foundation courses, and research seminars on cognate subjects. Apart from taught research courses, you may also do a short, 5,000-word individual research project in lieu of one module. This typically takes place towards the end of the programme, and can only be approved if a faculty member commits to act as supervisor.

Assessment method

Assessment will be by written examination, project, or coursework, depending upon the nature of the particular module. The exact composition will be determined in advance by the co-ordinator for the particular module, in consultation with the MPhil in Strategy, Marketing & Operations Programme Director. In the final assessment, each course module will have equal weight and a dissertation is equivalent to three courses.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Entry requirements

The minimum standard required is a First Class Honours or equivalent. This equates to a CGPA of 3.7/4.0. A degree with honours in a discipline with a strong quantitative orientation (e.g. mathematics, physics, engineering, mathematical economics) will normally be expected. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS minimum overall score of 7.5, with not less than 7.0 in each element.
