Course summary

Are you practically minded? Do you enjoy being creative, and do you have a vision for the buildings and cityscapes of the future? Our Architectural Technology course could help you on your way towards a dynamic and fulfilling career. You’ll have the chance to gain a thorough understanding of construction construction techniques and architectural detailing. The aim is for you to be able to apply your expertise in architectural technologies to the design of cost-efficient and sustainable buildings. Why study Architectural Technology?

  • Develop the skills to become a creative designer, capable of managing the progress of a construction project, whilst understanding the materials, components, structural systems and environments behind the world’s best buildings.
  • We’ll support you to develop expertise in using the communication technologies central to working in the construction industry, such as Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM).
  • Explore the subject both academically and practically, with a strong emphasis on enterprise and continuing professional development. You'll be well placed to progress in your professional career in a range of architectural and construction-related areas, as well as being prepared for further academic study and research at a higher level.
  • The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers. We've a strong track record of developing graduates who are highly employable and ready for a career in a rapidly changing, varied and diverse occupation.
Professional links and accreditation: The course is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). The University of Huddersfield was the first University to run an Architectural Technology Honours degree course to be accredited by the CIAT. The accreditation was awarded in the Accreditation Review visit took place in March 2017, and the programme was first Accredited in 1996. The course is valid for 5 years. The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) is a dynamic, forward-thinking and inclusive global membership qualifying body for Architectural Technology. It represents those practising and studying within the discipline and profession. It is a membership organisation representing 10,000 members within the discipline who wish to be professionally recognised. CIAT Accreditation implies that the programme has been assessed in terms of content, structure, resources and has met the Institute's requirements. The benefit of studying on a CIAT Accredited Programme is that it will support individuals wishing to become Chartered Architectural Technologists, MCIAT. The course is also fully accredited by the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE). The accreditation was awarded in 1996 and the last accreditation review visit took place in March 2017. This is valid for five years.
