Course summary
The CertHE Computer Automation and Internet of Things Development programme is the ideal introduction to the complex and exciting world of computer control and Internet of Things development. The programme is designed to provide post further education learners and existing software developers and electronics engineers with the fundamental skills to work in an industry that combines software engineering, electronics engineering and networking skills to develop electronic control and monitoring devices for industrial and home environments. Key Learnings: Development of hardware in the form of electronic circuits to control and respond to the real-world environment. Software development linked to controlling IoT devices and cloud storage and processing of information. Networking skills linked to the need for highly secure IoT device communications within industrial, home and business environments. Development of custom programmable logic systems through hardware description languages and the application of Field Programmable Gate Arrays. Human Computer Interfacing knowledge for application in the development of highly usable and efficient digital and physical interfaces for IoT devices. The course is designed to take a learner with limited experience in the field computing to being skilled in computing and electronics techniques required for them to work in the Internet of Things development industries, key elements the qualification focuses on include: Creative problem solving is core: learners will have the opportunity to develop problem solving skills that allow them to meet the needs of clients and organisations that require software to be developed to meet specific requirements. Innovative development for the real world: learners will be encouraged to be innovative and imaginative in designing computer software and modular electronic devices that are built to interact with the real world. Security is key: a strong focus on the requirements to create software and devices that will work securely across networks and the internet, creating systems that are protected from interception during data transmission and ensure privacy.
