This course is for people who want to be professional commercial dancers with a specialism in hip-hop dancing. Our exciting Dance Foundation Degree prepares you for a dance career through an intensive training programme delivered over 24 hours per week. On this dynamic course, you will be taught by industry professionals to develop your technique in hip-hop and commercial dance styles. This vibrant course will train you in a diverse range of hip-hop, commercial and foundation dance styles. The course aims to develop dynamic dancers allowing them to apply a range of dance styles and different situations such as auditions, performance and film. We aim to develop dancers to have strong techniques, be able to perform to a high level and work as professionals within a fast-paced industry. Unique elements of the course are: 100% focus on training to meet industry standards. Daily technique classes in commercial, hip-hop, voguing, house, grooves, litefeet, ballet and contemporary lyrical dance styles, enabling you to audition and perform to industry standards. Learn how to find work as a professional dancer and be ready to enter the industry. Learn new ways to create your own choreography. Learn from tutors who are currently working within the industry. 70% practical and 30% academic course structure, with up to 20 hours practical delivery per week. Modules
Modules may include: Year 1 (Level 4) Foundation Techniques (20 credits) Technique is a core element of professional dancer training. This module will provide you with the essential foundational skills in dance techniques and performance through ballet, jazz lyrical and contemporary dance, allowing you to truly stand out. Popular Movement Styles (20 credits) This dynamic module focuses on developing hip-hop, commercial and other supporting dance styles to a professional level. Dancer as Artist (20 credits) This module guides you through the exciting process of choosing your career pathway as a professional dancer with a focus on hip-hop and commercial dance styles. Music, Devising and Experimentation (20 credits) This module explores how music and dance are linked. You will deconstruct music and apply dance devising skills, allowing you to experiment with music, dance, and choreography to create new and exciting work. Choreography in Dance Practice (20 credits) This module builds on the skills learnt in the Music Devising and Experimentation module, enabling you to create your own dynamic choreography. You will investigate new approaches to choreography, allowing you to develop your skills to create dynamic work. Dance Ethnography (20 credits) This module looks at the history of hip-hop and commercial dance styles to give you an understanding of the cultural roots of these styles, how they have evolved, and how they will continue to develop into the future. Year 2 (Level 5) Synectic Dance Making (40 credits) This module teaches you the skills to produce your own choreography for a range of disciplines such as dance for film and digital media. ChiChi Circus (20 credits) As circus and aerial become increasingly prevalent within commercial dance, this module gives you the gymnastic and aerial dance skills required to take your dance to the next level. Contemporary Dance in Context (20 credits) This module looks at the history of contemporary dance and the continuing influence it has had on the dance industry. Somatic Practice (20 credits) This practical module encourages you to experiment by combining elements of hip-hop, commercial and contemporary dance to create your own identity and style as a dance practitioner. This development is crucial in establishing yourself as a professional dance artist. Create and Narrate (20 credits) This vital module gives you the opportunity to use your creative identity and individual dance style to create a new piece of choreography to perform to a live audience. You will also have the opportunity to plan, create and deliver a mini workshop/lesson based on this performance.
Assessment method
You will be assessed in a variety of practical assessments and coursework such as performances, presentations, logbooks, video logs and interviews.

English Language Grade C or above (grade 4 for those sitting their GCSE from 2017 onwards). Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Literacy are accepted in place of GCSEs. IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any component.
