Course summary
The course philosophy is built upon learning through making and material experimentation coupled with the importance of individual discovery, informed by personal research. Practical hands-on workshops, teaching both traditional and contemporary processes, where students explore their ideas and design potential, through expressive ceramic process, design and making. Students are lectured by experienced makers with their own professional practice. Tutor contact is second to none. This team of highly motivated staff is focused on identifying students' talents, while honing both practical and critical skills facilitating the student’s individual creative voice. At Carmarthen School of Art, we believe that these combined elements lie at the heart of good design and realisation. These qualities are fundamental in the making of contemporary craft. By the third year students are able to specialise in a specific area of ceramics or develop work across a range of ceramic skills. Culminating in the students ability to focus on a specific ceramics market. With exciting potential for producing innovative ceramic artifacts or domestic wear; within a design or craft contexts.
