Course summary

By undertaking research in German Studies at Birmingham, you will be joining one of the leading centres in the country for German language, literature, history and culture. We offer an exceptionally wide range of expertise ranging from traditional literary analysis to cutting-edge interdisciplinary approaches. German Studies is part of the Department of Modern Languages, which boasts a vibrant postgraduate community and provides a range of support for its research students. We offer two postgraduate research-only programmes, whether you are looking to complete your academic studies with a PhD or pursue your research at Masters level. The College of Arts and Law is experienced in delivering high quality distance learning to students all over the world.


Entry requirements

Applicants for a PhD will also need to hold a Masters qualification at Merit level or above (or its international equivalent), usually in a relevant area.
