Looking to develop a career in accounting? Or working closely with the accounting profession? Do you want to find out how accounting can improve managerial decision-making? This joint degree provides high-level education in accounting and its role in management in both the public and private sectors. You will develop vital transferable skills and a broad understanding of accounting and management, gaining detailed knowledge of accounting practices, finance, strategic management, marketing, managerial economics and quantitative techniques. This programme is recognised by the CIMA and ACCA, the leading professional accounting bodies, and exemptions from their professional examinations are possible. Birkbeck has a diverse student community, which creates a stimulating and supportive learning environment. You will interact with peers possessing a broad range of experience, many of whom will have come directly from careers as administrators, clerical workers or managers, to develop more detailed and nuanced insights into accounting and management. International applicants

If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests. If you don’t meet the minimum IELTS requirement, we offer pre-sessional English courses, foundation programmes and language support services to help you improve your English language skills and get your place at Birkbeck.

GCSE/National 4/National 5 Applicants will normally be expected to have grade C or grade 4 in GCSE-level English and mathematics.

We welcome applicants without traditional entry qualifications, as we base decisions on our own assessment of qualifications, knowledge and previous work experience. We may waive formal entry requirements based on judgement of academic potential. ALTERNATIVE ENTRY ROUTES The Certificate of Higher Education in Management offers an entry route to the Department’s undergraduate programmes. This Certificate has now been withdrawn, but if you have already successfully complete designated modules to an appropriate standard please contact the Department for details of module exemptions.

Institutions Own Test (IOT)

Applicants who do not have grade C or grade 4 in GCSE-level English and mathematics may be required to carry out a skills audit at a selection evening, which comprises English and mathematics. This audit assesses an applicant’s potential to cope with, and benefit from, a particular programme of study.
