Course summary
The Foundation Degree in Sport; Coaching, Health & Fitness (delivered in partnership with Plymouth University) will appeal to those who have an interest in sport, or would like the opportunity to develop and enhance their understanding of either the coaching or fitness industry. If you are looking for a career in a dynamic and fast-growing profession doing something you enjoy, this course is well worth considering. The course aims to provide you with a sound understanding of the key components of coaching, health and fitness, lifestyles and attitudes to exercise, promotion of healthy living, principles of fitness and training, and industry-specific management skills. You will be offered the opportunity to gain additional professional qualifications (Active IQ), which will qualify you to work as fitness instructors in the field.

Year 1: HE Study Skills & Professional Development; Anatomy & Physiology, Introduction to Sports Coaching, Introduction to Personal Training, Development & Provision of Sport & Physical Activity Year 2: Management Skills for the Health & Fitness Industry; Research Methods & Professional Skills; Physical Activity for Special Special Populations; Physical Activity, Nutrition & Health, Psychology for Health & Sports Performance, Advanced Sports Coaching Work-based learning: You are required to complete 200 hours’ work experience within appropriate health and fitness setting. International applicants
International applicants will be required to have an IELTS score of 6 achieved within the last two years to apply for this course. International students will be charged an additional £250 admin fee on top of the tuition fee.

Access to HE Diploma
Applicants should normally be at least 18 years of age. Applications are welcomed from candidates with a subject-specific Level 3 course such as a National Subsidiary/Diploma/Extended Diploma, A Level, Access to Higher Education Course, or a work-based course, such as NVQ 3 or Advanced Apprenticeship with 80 UCAS points achieved. Applications from candidates without formal qualifications, but who have a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience and are able to demonstrate that they have developed the necessary skills to succeed on the course will also be considered. All applicants will normally require at least 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above including maths and English (grade 4/5 new GCSE grading from 2017) or their Level 2 equivalents, and will be required to supply/undergo an enhanced DBS check. All applicants will be required to attend an interview.
