Course summary

Explore new ways to produce exciting choreography, whether you’re an established choreographer, a dance artist or a performance graduate. As part of this course you’ll:

  • Find new ways to produce innovative choreography
  • Choose optional modules to create an individual programme of study
  • Explore your artistic interests and make several new pieces of choreography
  • Engage with the latest research and insights, and learn how to apply this to real-world situations
  • Develop the skills to respond to a brief, curate work for festivals and events, and collaborate on and initiate interdisciplinary and experimental projects
  • Explore traditional and alternative settings for dance and performance, from the studio and theatre to galleries and museums
  • Have the opportunity to work with community groups using participatory, immersive and specialised collaborative approaches to develop new choreographic methods
  • Share ideas and experiences with fellow students to collaborate, critique and engage with each other's choreographic identities

Entry requirements

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree in the cognate subjects of Dance, Performance, Physical Theatre or Performing Arts, at least a second class honours degree in a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training from professional practice within the dance, arts or cultural industries. We conduct interviews as part of the admissions process and suitable applicants will be invited to attend an interview. Applicants based overseas will be supported to undertake this electronically and/or by telephone and will be required to submit a video link to examples of their artistic/choreographic practice. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional; you can download our reference template for completion. All applicants should satisfy our University English language requirements.
