Course summary
This qualification provides an enhanced work-related curriculum. It provides thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required for success in careers in computing and systems development. It provides a progression route to the HND in Computing and Systems Development or a progression path to a degree programme at university. Student will study a suite of eight level 4 units. Each unit is 15 credits, these include - • Programming – Learn about algorithms, how they are defined, and how they are implemented in code. • Networking – Discover the core principles of networking and how to achieve communication between devices. • Professional Practice – Develop skills as communicators, critical analysers, team workers, and interpreters. • Database Design & Development – Develop your understanding of the concepts and issues relating to database design and development. • Security – Learn how to detect threats and vulnerabilities in physical and IT security, and how to manage organisational security risks. • Planning a Computer Project – Demonstrate the skills required to manage and implement a successful computing project. • Cyber Security (Specialist Unit) – This unit will enhance your knowledge and understanding in relation to cyber threats, cyber defence techniques and incident response. • Website Design and Development – Introduction into services required to host, manage and access a secure website, including methods used by designers and developers to blend back-end technologies with front-end technologies; or • Management in the Digital Economy – Learn about the concept of organisational behaviour and how to apply this to the digital sector, developing an awareness of how organisations in the digital economy are organised and formed.
