Course summary
The Foundation Degree in Photography focuses on both the creative development and industry specific knowledge and skills required for students to practice as professionals within the creative industries. Traditional silver based photography, digital photography, and extensive studio and location work are key elements of the course with a strong emphasis on practice. You will be introduced to a wide range of digital and traditional equipment and become familiar with industry standard editing and post production techniques and software. You will be encouraged to develop your technical skills to a professional standard and there is strong emphasis on creative and critical engagement. Assignments are varied and interesting, covering disciplines such as photojournalism, documentary photography, fashion photography, commercial photography, fine art approaches and alternative photographic styles. A sound knowledge of the history of photography and awareness of contemporary developments will support and underpin your photographic practice and encourage you to think critically about photography and its impact on our society and culture in Wales and beyond.
