Course summary
Electrical and electronic engineers design, develop, test and oversee new technologies. This can be to generate and process power as well as create of anything from drones and electric cars to the technology in smartphones, sat navs and systems in hospitals. Our course will give you the specialist knowledge and skills that will help you be part of a more sustainable future. Through lab-based projects, working individually and in small teams, you'll bring together your numerical, analytical and technical knowledge to problem solve different situations. As a graduate, you will be confident in creating engineering solutions that industry are looking for. All our electrical and electronic courses have the same content in year one and two so by year three, you can choose to specialise in the topics that interest you. Our four-year MEng course is the preferred route to achieving Chartered Engineer status. It will give you a deeper understanding of the role of electrical engineering compared to our BEng course.
Modules
In your first year, you will gain an understanding of the principles and practices on which all specialisms within electrical and electronic engineering are founded. Practical and fault-finding skills are developed through laboratory and project work. In your second year, you will continue to improve your understanding of electrical and electronic engineering, and your design skills will be developed through a variety of laboratory-based subjects. In your third year, you can choose from a range of specialist topics to follow a wide path, or focus on specific technologies. In year four, you will be able to study state-of-the-art technologies taught by world-leading researchers and industrial engineers.
