The fashion industry is growing and worth £32 Billion to the UK economy. This programme equips you with the creative and enterprising skills necessary to enter this competitive and rewarding industry. During the Fashion & Textiles Foundation Degree you will spend your time making creative fashion and textiles whilst building your portfolio by participating in exhibitions, collaborative projects and live briefs. This course is now housed in our brand new £60m Quarry Hill campus with state of the art facilities. We have brand new studios, exhibition spaces, state of the art student work zones, and, importantly, a building which is exclusively for our degree students. The new college building sits in the Cultural Quarter of Leeds alongside the BBC, Leeds College of Music (which is also part of the Luminate Education Group, along with Leeds City College), Northern Ballet, and Leeds Playhouse, currently undergoing redevelopment. Between the sites, a shared space is in the process of being created, which will open up access to buildings and amenities. You will explore a variety of commercial practices as you develop specialist fashion and textile skills including design, contemporary and traditional printmaking, and material manipulation. You will experience a range of traditional and contemporary production processes as well as developing an appreciation of colour, pattern, image, form and tactility. You will be encouraged to develop creative and experimental responses to briefs and decide the direction of your portfolio of work; whether that is working on fine art pieces, designing and making garments, or creating textile products.
Modules may include: Fashion and Textiles Practice Realisation Skills Fashion and Textiles 101 The Creative Entrepreneur Art and Media Art and Commerce Public Exhibition and Events
Assessment is through a variety of forms linked to industry standards and professional practice which can include the production of a portfolio of practical work, diarised logs, pitches, presentations, delivery of workshops and written essays.
