Course summary
Involve yourself in practice-related research and professional development with our PgCert Education: Autism. Relevant to all phases of education including post-16 education, the programme is designed to make it theoretically and practically relevant for educational practitioners. It continues the established relationship between the University of Plymouth, REACCHSW (Autism South West), and Plymouth Local Authority (Communication and Interaction Team).

Modules
Normally completed in one year, this programme is designed to allow you the opportunity to learn about the theory and practice of autism. You will be taught face to face, using blended learning tasks to support the submission process. There is an optional assessment submission based on the Autism Education Trust’s competency outcomes. The assignments allow you to choose a research focus relevant to your own work. Core modules:

- Autism: Perspectives and Contexts
- Understanding Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC).
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Entry requirements
An undergraduate degree (e.g. BA, BSc, BEd) or an appropriate equivalent qualification/and or professional experience. International applicants will be required to provide evidence of their English language ability, for example by achieving an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in each element) or equivalent. Pre-sessional English language courses are available if you do not meet these requirements.
