Course summary

Our MSc Business and Management course gives you the knowledge and skills you need to be an inspiring, effective and resilient manager. We combine management theory with development of practical skills, and our course is taught by internationally recognised subject experts. The course focuses on operations and strategic management, and explores the need for managing limited resources effectively, with maximum business impact. This is the ideal Masters if you're looking to take your first steps into management. We cover the major functions of organisations – accounting, marketing, operations, people and talent management. Finance and economics are integrated through our strategic orientation. We aim to create industry leaders, managers and entrepreneurs, who're confident in the use of business analytics tools and critical thinking abilities. This allows for better and informed decision making in your management career. There’s an emphasis on entrepreneurship, innovation and strategic management. You’ll also develop an appreciation of corporate social responsibility, ethical decision making and managing change. Degree pathways As part of our commitment to flexible learning this postgraduate course in Business and Management also offers two pathways, MSc Management and Marketing, and MSc Management with New Venture Creation and Innovation. To graduate with one of these degrees, students choose from a selection of tailored modules.

Modules

Semester 1: Personal and professional development; accounting and finance; economics; operations management; entrepreneurship, theory and practice; responsible business in society. Semester 2: Marketing management; people management; strategic management; personal and professional development. Plus 2 electives from the following: Quantitative management techniques; project management fundamentals; project management in context; managing in emerging economies; business improvement.

Assessment method

Assessment is by a mixture of examination and coursework (individual and group, including written assignments and presentations). The 2 personal and professional development modules are designed and assessed to enable each student to monitor the development throughout the academic year. The MSc award requires you to complete a 15,000-word dissertation.


Entry requirements

A minimum of a 2nd Class Honours degree (2.1 preferred) or equivalent. Applicants without these formal qualifications but with significant appropriate/relevant work/life experience are encouraged to apply. If English is not the applicant's 1st language, evidence of proficiency must be provided such as a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (5.5 in all bands). If the applicant does not meet the required score it may be possible to register for 1 of our pre-sessional English courses. To register applicants must hold a conditional offer for the course and have an IELTS score 0.5 or 1.0 below the required standard.
