Course summary

This full-time PGCE English Literacy and Language programme is perfect if you hold a degree in English or a related subject and are looking to become qualified to teach people who speak English as a second language, as well as those whose first language is English and are looking to improve their literacy skills. You will undertake two placements as part of the course to gain specialist knowledge in both areas. You should have a keen interest in language and how it works, enjoy working with people of other backgrounds and cultures to develop their language skills and have a good level of spoken and written English. This course is aimed at those who are looking to study on a full-time basis. Once you complete this course you will be eligible to apply for QTLS, which is as highly regarded as a QTS by employers.

Teaching, learning and assessment in Education and training; Theories, principles and models in education and training; English Literacy and Language and the learners; Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training; Wider professional practice in education and training; English Literacy and Language frameworks; English Literacy and Language learning and teaching.

Assessment method

Observation of teaching practice, Teaching portfolios, Written assignments, Presentations.


Entry requirements

Minimum 2:2 in the relevant Level 6 qualification.
