Course summary

This programme is designed to provide healthcare educators and other healthcare professional trainers with the knowledge and skills to design, develop and facilitate effective simulation training and education. Suitable for all health care professionals with an interest or involvement in delivering training and education, the main aims of this programme are to provide you with:

  • an understanding of the principles of adult learning and how they can be applied to multidisciplinary health care simulation training
  • an understanding of the evolution, variety and importance of human factors in healthcare practice
  • the knowledge and skills required to design, develop and facilitate simulation training
  • the debriefing skills required to aid learners subsequent reflection and development
Simulation is becoming increasingly prevalent as a tool for teaching and learning in health care because it provides a safe environment in which students can develop clinical skills and non-technical skills via guided debriefing.

Modules

This programme comprises three distinct but complementary, compulsory 20 credit modules: Adult learning theory and its application to multidisciplinary healthcare simulation  Healthcare Simulation Delivery Human factors in healthcare

Assessment method

Assessment methods used on the programme include: oral presentations, evidence based essays and creation of simulation scenarios for use within a high-fidelity simulation suite.


How to apply

International applicants

English language requirements You can satisfy our English language requirements in two ways: by holding an English language qualification to the right level  by taking and successfully completing one of our English courses for international students English to IELTS 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.5 in each component). If you need help with your English language skills then support is available.  The English for Academic Purposes Presessional course is for international students who have a conditional offer to study at the University, but who do not currently meet the English language requirements. The course is tailored to your level of English and allows you to meet the English language requirements for your programme without retaking IELTS. The EAP programme runs throughout the year and offers different programme lengths ranging from 42 weeks to 6 weeks. The length of course you need depends on your future course, your existing IELTS score and the English level you need for your university degree.

Entry requirements

A relevant first degree or an equivalent professional qualification is required, ideally in healthcare and allied specialties (including simulation technicians).
