Course summary

The one-year BSc (top-up) in Animal Behaviour and Welfare course is aimed at people who wish to upgrade a Level 5 qualification in animal-related studies, such as the FdSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare, to a BSc (Hons) qualification. This course allows you to develop and expand on your scientific knowledge of animal behaviour and welfare, alongside practical application of this knowledge within animal-related industries. Within this course there are opportunities to develop your academic skills, through critical analysis and evaluation of contemporary research. Graduates may progress into graduate roles within animal-related industries or may continue their studies by progressing onto Level 7 studies, such as Masters degree courses. Previous graduates have progressed into careers in behaviour and training, some have entered into work in zoos, animal rescue centres and veterinary practices. This course is taught at Witney College, at the Common Leys Campus or Solihull College. Therefore you may need to consider travel costs depending on your proximity to the campus.

Modules

This is a full-time, modular course requiring two days attendance per week for one year at Solihull College with additional time spent developing practical skills at Solihull's Animal Care Centre and in a work placement. The programme develops contemporary, high-level animal behaviour and welfare knowledge and skills, through modules which are at the cutting edge of their fields and/or look at new and emerging subject areas. During this year you also get the opportunity to pursue a research interest of your choice whilst completing your dissertation module.
