Course summary

This award is granted jointly between Ulster University and University College Dublin. This programme will give you a broad knowledge of veterinary public health (VPH) issues. Learn to assess available evidence and data, make sound judgements, and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders in the food chain including producers, regulators, industry and consumers. Relevant UK, EU and international food regulatory policy will be covered and translated into a regulatory framework so that you can grasp the complex idea of total regulation of the food chain, from primary production, through to consumer health issues. Core areas of VPH are addressed in relation to the regulatory responsibilities of veterinarians and the protection of animal health and welfare and human health. You will develop knowledge of legislative, policy and scientific aspects of VPH, as well as acquire skills to implement knowledge in practice. Teaching is through online lectures, discussions, individual support and small group work. On successful completion of the PGCert you can progress to the PGDip or Masters in Veterinary Public Health (Food Regulatory Affairs specialisation).
