Flourish behind the scenes with our Fashion, Theatrical and Media Hair and Makeup Foundation Degree. This creative course allows you to develop the high-calibre of skills demanded by the competitive industry while our strong industry links and emphasis on practical learning, prepare you for a successful backstage career. Our programme blends academic study with industry insight to provide a comprehensive understanding of the industry. We encourage professional development, so as you study, you’ll gain industry experience. You will experience lectures, sketchbook workshops, critiques, discussions and presentations, while building your professional portfolio. As you study, you’ll learn specialist skills such as special effects makeup, body art, and wig knotting. You’ll have opportunities to showcase at events and work backstage on productions and shoots, helping you to polish your professional portfolio. We regularly invite industry experts to guest lecture or run makeup masterclasses. Train in our bespoke setting at our partner television studio, Prime Studios. You’ll also have the opportunity to gain practical experience with local theatres such as Leeds Grand Theatre and Carriageworks Theatre and at events such as the IMATS and United Makeup Artists Expo.
Over the two years of this course modules may include: Year 1 Creative Hair and Make Up 1 Creative Hair and Make Up 2 Historical Influences in Hair and Makeup Principles of Flat Mould Appliances Professional Development Special Effects Make Up Year 2 2D and 3D Body Art Creative Postiche Managing the Creation of a Showcase Prosthetics and Casting Work Related Learning
You will be assessed using the following methods: •Assignments, •Practical observations / photographic, •Presentations, •Portfolio production, •Reflection and Evaluation Journals and •Continuous Feedback.
