Course summary

This course provides education and training in selected military electronic systems. The course is intended for officers of the armed forces and for scientists and technical officers in government defence establishments and the defence industry. It is particularly suitable for those who, in their subsequent careers, will be involved with the specification, analysis, development, technical management or operation of military radar, electro-optics, communications, sonar or information systems, where the emphasis will be on an Electronic Warfare environment. Students taking the Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) course variant are able to choose to study, and will be awarded, either the Communications Electronic Warfare PgCert or Sensors Electronic Warfare PgCert.

Modules

Compulsory modules: Electromagnetic propagation and devices; signal processing, statistics and analysis; MES-CP-communications principles; communications systems; radar principles; electro-optics and infrared systems 1; dissertation project. Elective modules: Radar electronic warfare; electro-optics and infrared systems 2; advanced sensor data processing; MES-AR – advanced radar; information networks; foundations of modelling and simulation; autonomy of systems; communications of electronic warfare.

Assessment method

By examination, assignments and thesis.


Entry requirements

A first or second class Honours degree or equivalent in science, engineering or mathematics. Alternatively, a lesser qualification together with appropriate work experience may be acceptable. If you are an international student you will need to provide evidence that you have achieved a satisfactory test result in an English qualification. The minimum standard expected from a number of accepted courses are as follows: IELTS Academic - 7; TOEFL - 92; Pearson PTE Academic - 65; Cambridge English Scale - 180; Cambridge English: Advanced - C; Cambridge English: Proficiency - C; Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English III - minimum overall score of pass.
